About UMN IEEE

The student chapter of IEEE at the U of M is here to benefit students in several ways.  IEEE provides students with the opportunity to network with professional contacts through presentations by engineering firms and an annual jobfair attended by many prominent companies.  IEEE also provides tutorials on subjects that pertain directly to all types of engineering courses.  Lastly, social events are frequently held to help students network with each other.

Group's principle activities, events, or programs:
We have monthly meetings where engineers from Industry will discuss various topics.  We organize the spring IEEE/IT Career Fair.  We also have various social events throughout the semester.

How this group's activities benefit the University community:
Our monthly meetings allow students to meet and question professional engineers currently in the field.  Our career fair is a great opportunity for students to get internships and even full time jobs after graduation.

The IEEE Room:
We have an internal network of 6-8 computers and an EE lab bench with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, etc.  We also accomadate late night snacking with our full size fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.  There are two tables dedicated for studying, and a sofa for crashing.  We have group projects that promote hands on use of the skills engineering skills learned through classes.

How to join UMN IEEE:
To join IEEE as a student, follow this link IEEE registration. At the end of the application process, your membership will be added to the shopping cart. Be sure to go into the shopping cart and actually pay for the membership. Once you have registered online, come to the IEEE room with either your IEEE membership card or the membership number that is printed on your receipt. Then ask for one of the System Admins to setup your computer account.

How to get involved with this group:
Our room is located in EE/Csci, 2-110.  If you have any further questions, you can find the email address of the officers by following the 'contact us' link to the left, or just stop by our room.
